Shangri-La, a new Asian restaurant, will be opening in the middle of December in the space that was once occupied by Ping’s Garden in the Seven Hills Plaza on Worcester’s Madison Street. The opening of Shangri-La will give theatre-goers at Hanover Theatre another option for pre- and post- theatre meals.
7 Nana opening. Seems as though 7 Nana, the much anticipated Japanese restaurant on Worcester’s Shrewsbury Street, won’t be opening until the first of the year due to construction delays.
Joey’s Bar & Grill opened the last week in Novemeber in their new location on Chandler Street in Worcester. We hear they have been packed since day one. Joey’s, owned by Erika & Joe Rovezzi, was formerly located on Mill Street in Worcester. Judging by the crowds, this may have been a great move.

Ole, a new Mexican restaurant which features homemade food at very affordable prices, opened in the middle of October. Ole is in the space that once housed Tom’s International Deli on Water Street, kitty corner across the street from Jose Murphy’s in Worcester’s Canal District.
Sakura Tokyo, the first Japanese restaurant in Worcester, has reopened after extensive renovations. They were closed for several months and reportedly spent over a million dollars renovating the space, which was the first in the area to feature Tepanaki tables.
Ethan’s Family Restaurant recently opened in the space that housed La Bussola and, before that, The Jefferson House. The eatery is owned by Johnson Joseph, who also serves as chef. The menu is American and family-friendly.
A new oasis of dining will open shortly in downtown Worcester. Shangri La, a Chinese restaurant featuring Szechuan and Cantonese cooking as well as a full sushi bar, will open in the space that housed Ping’s Garden for over twenty years. Mai Tai opened in the middle of September on Worcester’s Green Street in the heart of the Canal District. They offer a limited menu of Chinese appetizers and sushi.
Worcester House of Pizza has taken over the space that was occupied for a brief time by the Firewood Café at 222 Chandler Street. This primo location is near Clark and Worcester State University.
This isn’t Stanely’s place, but rather the newest venture launched by the Oliveri Family. Father Tom and his wife Elsa started with Bushel n Peck ~ a multi location deli ~ before opening several full service restaurants. The family owns Peppercorn’s and Wormtown Brewery in Worcester; Elsa’s in Shrewsbury, Prezzo in Milford and now Olie’s in West Boylston.

Niche Hospitality Group’s newest venture, Mezcal, recently opened a second location in Leominster. From what we hear, they are doing gangbusters. The Mexican eatery is located in the space that was formerly home to Blue Marlin.

The Mandarin Chinese restaurant just recently opened in the Julio’s Plaza on Route 9 in Westboro. The eaatery was formerly located on East Main Street before moving into its new digs.
Zorba’s Taverna opens. Zorba’s Taverna restaurant recently opened on 97 Stafford St. in Worcester in a space that once housed Christo’s Restaurant. The space has undergone an extensive renovation. The restaurant features, as the name implies, Greek and American food in a family- friendly setting. This is the second Zorba’s ~ the first is located in Charlton.
The Mai Tai Sushi bar will be opening soon on Worcester’s Green Street in the heart of the Canal District. It will be owned by the same folks who operate Auburn’s Yong Shing.
Sea Dog Steak & Ale, a restaurant owned by Sea Dog Brewery from Maine, will soon be opening a restaurant in Northboro. This is their third restaurant in MA ~ the others two are located in Hull and Woburn. Sea Dog will be moving into the space that was once home to Lazio’s on Route 20.
Jimmy’s Tavern & Grill. Jimmy’s Tavern has opened in the space that once housed Bugaboo Creek in Shrewsbury’s White City Shopping Center. Gone are the talking moose and the wacky Christmas tree ~ In their place is an understated steak house that is family-friendly and affordable, specializing in steak , seafood and grill items.
