Gelato Cafe and Retail Store to Offer European Desserts, Sandwiches and More

January 15 – MGM Grand at Foxwoods will be home to an authentic Italian Gelato Cafe and adjoining retail store when the resort casino opens its doors in May 2008. Owned and operated by MGM Grand at Foxwoods, the Gelato Cafe will serve over 20 flavors of the delicious Italian ice cream as well as offer a variety of coffee drinks, pastries, specialty sandwiches and salads.

The 4,200-square-foot Gelato Cafe, outfitted in stainless steal and decorated with glass fixtures, will be conveniently located at the entrance of MGM Grand near the property’s skywalk, which links directly to Foxwoods Resort Casino. The café, overlooking the picturesque rolling hills of southeastern Connecticut, will seat 76 guests and feature complimentary wireless internet access. In addition, the Gelato Cafe will have an adjoining retail shop where guests can purchase assorted pre-packaged candies, chocolates, cookies and various gourmet food items.

“The Gelato Cafe at MGM Grand at Foxwoods is a unique addition to the extraordinary dining line up that guests can experience during their stay,” said Gillian Murphy, senior vice president and general manager, MGM Grand at Foxwoods. “Similar to gelato bars found in large cities across the country, the Gelato Cafe will offer a variety of authentic European delights.”

Developed exclusively for the MGM Grand at Foxwoods, Italian manufacturer IFI ~ along with Carpigiani-USA ~ designed the Gelato Cafe’s production system. Implementing the world’s most modern technology, this system maximizes the efficiency and production of gelato. Included in this system is PUNTO GELATO ITALIANO, a custom designed European bar system from IFI and the only one of its kind in the United States.

PUNTO GELATO ITALIANO, the first ever round and rotating gelato case, efficiently stores and protects the flavor and appearance of gelato while offering an aesthetic design with optimal product display for customers. The rotating case allows customers to view the gelato from numerous angles and, with hand and foot controls to turn the display case, allows cafe workers easy access to all flavors.
