The owners of Block 5 have a new treat in store for local food lovers. Bocado, a full-fledged tapas restaurant, is scheduled to open in the beginning of this month. The restaurant will be taking over the spaces at 82 Winter Street (formerly occupied by S.P.Q.R. an Italian caffe) and 86 Winter Street.
Bocado, which translates to “mouthful” in Spanish, will specialize in the tapas style of dining, meaning that it will offer mini meals or small entrees with more variety and substance than typical appetizers. With over 40 different tapas items that include meat, seafood, and vegetable preparations, there is sure to be something for everyone. “The food is very affordable because it’s small meals,” Corvino said. “80 percent of the items on the menu are between $4 and $7.”
According to Michael Covino, the general manager of Bocado, the new location will be run by the same team who is in charge of Block 5 ~ chef Steve Champagne, bar manager Kevin Ludy, and kitchen manager Michael DesRosiers.
The décor, full of warm, soothing tones, will also be similar in feel to Block 5 ~ very modern, with contemporary lighting and a full bar. Covino invites everyone to come down to check out the new concept. “There is a new twist, a new style, a new menu,” he explained. “It’s a new concept in Worcester, tappas is all about sharing, too, so large groups are welcome. There are a lot of restaurants opening up, but this is a new experience that we’re opening up here.” Included in that new experience will be an open kitchen.
The portion of the restaurant at 86 Winter Street will be available for functions and has already booked several holiday parties. Parking is available right across from the building and valet service will also be offered Tuesday through Sunday. Gift certificates are available at Block 5 and can be used at both restaurants. Bocado is open seven days a week from 4:30 p.m.; the tappas menu is available until 1 a.m. and the bar is open until 2 a.m.
